Small Groups

Small groups are very enjoyable and challenging.  You get to meet new people and become good friends.  Those new friends challenge you to try different projects and you can learn new skills.  Admission to some of our small groups is closed due to lack of space.  If we don't have room in a group for you we will try to start a new one.

Birthday Block Swap

This is a commitment for a year to make a 100% cotton block for each member in the group with the member choosing the pattern.  It is a chance to do things you might not have tried by yourself and it is great fun when you receive your requested blocks.  This group is organized in December so the exchange can begin at the start of the year and usually has between 8-12 participants.  In October we have a party to see what each person received and just what ideas spring forth for the layout of the precious quilt top. 

The Sewing Bees

This is an informal group of quilters who meet in the Annex at Poricy Park on Wednesdays from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Participants  bring whatever they are working on.  Come with your problems and we will try to help you solve them.  Quilts that need a large space may be pinned or basted and we will help with that as well.  New quilters are welcome and encouraged to come.  Bring your lunch and meet new people or new friends.

Scrappy Wednesday Group

On the second Wednesday of the month a few more quilters are added to the Sewing Bees group and the group then becomes the Scrappy Wednesday group.  On this day we use scrap fabric to make a block for our outreach quilts.  Sometimes we make whole quilt tops and other times we just make a few squares.  We learn something new each month and are always looking for more hands to help with this project.

The Annex is used by Poricy Park's Summer Camp Program so we are off for July and August, but we return in September.

Open Sew Saturdays

These Saturdays are scheduled throughout the year.  As the name implies, it is open to everyone and you bring whatever you want to work on.  We meet in the Annex from 10 AM to 3 PM so bring your lunch and plan to get things done. 

Community Service Quilts

This group meets from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM on the third Tuesday of the month.  We make warm quilts and doll/teddy bear quilts for distribution to community groups. The completed quilts bring comfort and warmth to people in need.  Interested in joining the group please contact Lorraine Cahalane.

Story Weavers

This group has nine members who enjoy reading and quilting.  The group selects a novel which everyone then reads and interprets into a quilt.  The group will be showing their quilts based on the various books they have read at the 2012 RRQ Quilt Show.  The group is currently full and not accepting new members.
